Movie quotes Unthinkable

Every man, no matter how strong he is, lies to himself about something.  by H.

What you call Freedom is a false god.   Younger

How much do we value our freedom? is what this movie is all about.

Faced with extenuating circumstances, what would we do? "Unthinkable" is a very current, undebatably intense uneasy ride down a steep, winding and twisting tunnel.

Unthinkable is an American suspense thriller film directed by Gregor Jordan and starringSamuel L. JacksonMichael Sheen and Carrie-Anne Moss

A movie that provides plenty of food for thought

Movie quote de The Secret in their eyes/ El secreto de Sus ojos

“No le de más vueltas. Va a tener mil pasados sin ningún futuro. No piense más. Se va a quedar solo con recuerdos.”

The Secret in Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos)is a 2009 Argentinian dramatic thriller film, directed by Juan José Campanella and based on Eduardo Sacheri's novel La pregunta de sus ojos (The Question in Their Eyes).

Wonderful movie worth your time.  It's just full of passion. This one will stay with you. It's impossible not to get caught up in this epic tale of unresolved love and despair.  The compelling story plays out like a page-turning suspense novel that you can't put down. Also is a best-of-both-worlds affair, combining old-school storytelling with modern-day technique.

Below  excerpt of Rick Groen's review.
In the opening frames, a one-word note, scrawled by an aging man on a bedside pad in the seconds before sleep overtakes him, reads simply, “Temo” – I fear. What follows is a murder mystery, a romance, a comedy, a political document, and a dissertation on memory and truth, all seamlessly interwoven into a life-long journey that ends with the addition of a single transformative letter. Among the many secrets in The Secret in Their Eyes is how that old man gains the knowledge, and the courage, to elevate himself from “Temo” to “Te Amo” – from the clutches of fear to the balm of love. Such an arduous journey, yet such an effortless film.
But naturalism isn’t realism, and that’s precisely the point here. Over a lifetime of chances seized and lost, of lies told and retracted, our eyes harbour secrets that our mind both knows and doesn’t know. To unravel those secrets can be a hero’s quest or a fool’s errand, and Esposito is duly warned: “Forget about it. You’ll have a thousand pasts and no future.” Maybe so, maybe not – after all, infected by the same germ of hope, history’s heroes are close cousins to its fools.

Black Swan is a 2010 “psycho-sexual thriller.” directed by Darren Aronofsky.

The film stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as ballet dancers in a New York City production of Swan Lake. The production requires a ballerina to play both the innocent White Swan and the sensual Black Swan.  Natalie Portman plays the emotionally and physically fragile dancer Nina, consumed with playing the coveted dual role of the lovely Swan Queen and the evil Black Swan in Swan Lake.
Movie Quote
black swan (nina), I just want to be perfect.
teacher: the only person standing in your way is you.

When Ballet and ambition meet an unstable mind, the breakdown and struggle between good and evil can be spectacular.
Nina Sayers wants the title of prima ballerina. Her perfection and grace makes her the ideal match for the white swan, but the crudity and abandon required for the black swan elude Nina.

Black Swan is a strange and creepy film that gets weirder as it goes. The pressure of a dual role on a mind as fragile as Nina's can make it bend a few times in odd ways before it breaks.
The movie has some look away horrific scenes; but somehow the drama about a hallucinating mentally ill woman is even more disturbing. The film takes a very beautiful, dark, and twisted view of the internal struggle that Nina goes through to become both sides of the lead character. Beauty finds her inner beasts.

The Good vs. Evil elements are really played up.  Nina Sayers is consumed by the conflict between the ideal and reality.
It is wonderful to see how N. Portman dips into crazy better than just about anyone in recent film history. Her physical and emotional transformation is appalling.
“It is one thing to lose yourself in your art. Portman's ballerina loses her mind”. Roger Ebert

“Perfection is terrible,” wrote Sylvia Plath.  Perfection drives Nina to a terrible transformation

This movie is scary, mysterious, and shocking.
We are our worst enemies, the film instructs us, as is evinced by the film’s necessarily tragic conclusion.

Oscar is in the air.........
